Greenhouse Propagtion
Summary:
The UA Plant Science Club will propagate common herbs, vegetable starts as well as common house plants for sale at local farmer’s markets. We are constantly alternating what type of plants we decide to propagate. Contact us for more information on specific plant types or come out and see us on the UA Mall during the Farmer's Markets.
List of goals:
UA Plant Science Club aims to support itself through on and off campus plant sales. Proceeds from the plant sales will be directed towards vital expenses as determined by the presidency and advisor. UA Plant Science Club also aims to support the mission of the Native Plant Nursery by providing species to increase biodiversity in urban areas.
List of associated activities:
We have allied with the Campus Arboretum, the Native Plant Nursery and CEASA to ensure all of our propagated plants will be sold at market or used to benefit the Tucson community. In the case of an unforeseen disaster, the UA Plant Science Club Greenhouse Conservatory will provide hearty starters to resume propagation.
Resources to be produced:
Plant propagation is entirely for the education and benefit of club members. We will produce enough of each type of plant to hold plant sales at least once per semester. Profits will provide funds for growth substrate and seeds for the next plant sale. Urban biodiversity will also be positively impacted through the propagation and installation of Sonoran natives.
