Mammillaria
Almost exclusively found in Mexico, Mammillaria is one of the largest genera of cacti, including about 200 species of globose cacti that are very popular in cultivation.
The name derives from the latin "mammilla", for nipple or teat, because of the distinctively raised tubercles that all species possess. Additionally, another association of Mammillaria cacti is the development of an apical ring of flowers during the blooming season (1, 2).
