Adenium 'Hansoti Dwarf' | Apocynaceae | dwarf Adenium
One of the most noteworthy specimens in our collection, Adenium 'Hansoti Dwarf' was donated by Mark Dimmitt himself, previously existing only within his private collection. In addition to being an intriguing cultivar, 'Hansoti dwarf' is a cutting from the very first Adenium in cultivation, making the species our oldest specimen.
Adenium arabicum was the first Adenium in cultivation, having been grown in India since the 1930s, and likely having originated in Yemen. In 1999, Mark Dimmitt obtained a cutting of this specimen and named it Adenium ‘Hansoti Dwarf’ for its compact growth. The Adenium ‘Hansoti Dwarf’ specimen within the conservatory collection was grown from the ‘Hansoti Dwarf’ cutting originally obtained by Mark Dimmitt.
Therefore, the Mark Dimmit Desert Plant Conservatory possesses a clone of the very first Adenium in cultivation. Surviving since the 1970s, this clone is one of Mark Dimmitt’s oldest specimens, and one of the conservatory’s most prized plants.
